The Art Room is a studio offering art instruction to children and adults in downtown Lafayette, California. Our students hail from the Lamorinda area, Walnut Creek, Danville, Berkeley, Concord, Pleasant Hill and other East Bay cities. Students experience and enjoy the creative process while learning the skills needed to create a work of art with pride. Our goal is to achieve a balance between process and product.

Emphasis is on small classes (6-10) with strong individual attention. Whether students work from one of our fabulous projects or from a still life that we’ve set up, the results are amazing. With the guidance provided by skilled art instructors, students gain self-confidence as they explore and develop their artistic ability. At The Art Room every student SHINES! In addition to the wide choice of classes we offer, you can also "Create-a-Class". We will work with you to create a class for your children, or a group of adults. Days and times are flexible. These classes have been especially popular with pre-schoolers and home-schoolers. We provide a positive and nurturing learning experience that encourages our students to use their imagination. At the same time students begin to acquire an art vocabulary and are introduced to well known artists.

The Art Room can provide after school programs at your school site. Our teachers travel to many Bay Area schools to teach in our extensive programs, and we'd love to add your school to our growing list! We also do birthday parties! Sign up now for Winter/Spring classes that start on Monday, January 4. We have some great new classes this season and all The Art Room classics! Go to the Winter Classes page to see our selection of classes. There you can click on any of the class names to get a description of that specific class. Don’t forget when you register for a six week session you will receive one additional class for free, to be taken in the same six week session. It’s a great way to try out a different class.
